THROWING TASTERS
A fun throwing experience aimed at beginners who would like to learn the basics from our friendly teachers.
The course covers:
- Clay Preparation
- Learning to centre
- Throwing basic cylinders
Where: The Kiln Shed, Whichford Pottery
Level: Beginner
What you take home: Two pieces that you throw on the day. We will fire these for collection three weeks later.

FOUNDATION COURSES
Throwing courses aimed at beginners who would like to learn the basics and understand the fundamentals behind the methods we use here at Whichford Pottery. Choose from either a weekly evening course. or a two-day intensive course.
FOUNDATION - SIX WEEK COURSE

INTENSIVE FOUNDATION - TWO DAY INTENSIVE COURSE
Course Dates:
When: Friday 28th & Saturday 29th March 2025- Sold Out
Price: £395 for two-day course (Price includes clay & firing costs).
The course covers:
- Learning to Center
- An introduction to the Foundations of the Three-Pull Technique
- Throwing a Small Form
Where: The Kiln Shed, Whichford Pottery
Level: Beginner
What you take home: Up to five pieces that you throw on your last session. We will fire these for collection three weeks later.

PROGRESSION COURSES
Throwing courses for throwers who have some prior experience and want to improve their skills. During this course you will start to work with larger weights of clay and practice forming shapes with intention. Choose from either a weekly evening course or a two-day intensive course.
PROGRESSION - SIX WEEK COURSE

- Clay preparation
- Centering and the foundations of the Three Pull technique
- Practicing form, throwing to specific measurements and creating shapes with intention
- Introduction to making and turning a bowl
Where: The Kiln Shed, Whichford Pottery
Level: For our Progression course we ask for throwers to have some prior throwing experience.
What you take home: Up to five pieces that you throw on your last session. We will fire and glaze these for collection three weeks later.

RHYTHM
Forming Shapes with Intention & Accuracy
A three day workshop for intermediate throwers who would like to learn to throw with speed and accuracy.
This practice-based throwing course is aimed at intermediate throwers who want to build confidence. Repetition is an important method to gain confidence and skill. In reproducing the same item over and over again, to the same standard you are converting conscious movements into a subconscious action. Once you have mastered technique, intention and accuracy, speed will naturally follow - allowing you to throw in a fast and measured way.
Aim of the Course: To become confident in forming shapes with intention & accuracy.
The Workshop Covers:
- Practicing the Three Pull technique
- Practicing form and throwing to specific measurements.
- Practicing repeating the same form to achieve consistency and speed
Where: The Kiln Shed, Whichford Pottery
Level: Intermediate - to take part in this course you will need to be able to centre well and form shapes with intention
What you take home: Up to five pieces that you throw throughout your course. We will fire these for collection four weeks later or can post them to you.

HONE
Harness Your Technique
A rare opportunity for you to tell us what you would like to learn. Whether it be altering forms, pulling handles, joining small sections or more.. our teachers are here to help.
A multi-day workshop tailored to proficient potters who would like to improve a specific technique or area of their practice. Uniquely, the structure of this course is determined by the areas each participant wants to focus on.
Aim of the Workshop: Improve and harness a specific area of your practice.
The Workshop Covers:
- Personal demonstrations
- Six in-depth technique tutorials
- An individual timetable tailored to your needs
Where: The Kiln Shed, Whichford Pottery
Level: Proficient - to take part in this course you should be confident in achieving shapes with intention, detail and accuracy
What you take home: Up to three pieces that you throw throughout your workshop. We will fire these for collection four weeks later or can post them to you.

SCALE
Throwing Multi-Sectional Forms
Adam Keeling leads a multi-day workshop for proficient throwers who would like to handle larger amounts of clay and create multi-sectioned forms.
Scale is a three day practice-based throwing course aimed at proficient throwers who are looking to increase the scale of their work. During this course you will learn how to make multi-sectioned forms, as well as techniques to help throw larger weights of clay. In order to take part in this course we do ask that you are comfortable working with a minimum of 5kg of clay.
Aim of the Workshop: Using heavier weights of clay to throw multi-sectional forms.
The Workshop Covers:
- Practicing the Three Pull technique
- Centering larger weights of clay
- Throwing forms to exact measurements
- Joining sections and forming multi-sectioned pieces
Where: The Kiln Shed, Whichford Pottery
Level: Proficient - To take part in this course you must be able to achieve shapes with intention and accuracy and confidently handle 5kg of clay.
What you take home: Your favourite piece thrown during the workshop. We will fire this for collection four weeks later or can post it to you.
Price: £650 for three day workshop
